'Possibly Armed' Man Taken Into State Police Custody Following Shippensburg School Lockdowns

A shelter-in-place order was put in place in the Shippensburg Area School District as Pennsylvania state police searched for a "possibly armed" man on Friday, August 26. 

William Lewis, 32, is described as 5 foot 7 inches and was last seen wearing black clothing in Shippensburg Borough near the Roxbury Treatment Center. 

The schools are not involved in the search, but were locked down as a precaution around 3 p.m., police say. 

Parents and guardians are asked not to call the schools or go to the, according to a post on the district website

"PSP are working with Shippensburg schools to assist/escort the students and buses during dismissal," state police announced around 4:20 p.m. around 4:20 p.m.

Parents are asked to "wait on updates from the school," according to Trooper Megan Frazer.

The public is still being asked to avoid the area of Roxbury Ridge Apartments near Meadow Drive in Shippensburg, by both the district and the police. 

If you see Lewis, "do not engage him," and call 911, police say.
